This country is said to be the land of many opportunities. That’s why there are many foreign workers in the country, which carries an H1B-visa. An H1B is a type of non-immigrant visa that applies only in the United States under the Immigration and Nationality Act. Like the rest, taxes are collected from them, which make them eligible to claim for tax debt relief when necessary.
Their living status in the country is not a hindrance for them to ask for tax relief from IRS. Largely, because they are also taxed according to the general income taxation laws, likewise, the same for all other taxes. These people are called legal aliens in the country, and can stay for three years up to six years. While in the country, they can also avail certain government benefits and grants, like everyone else.
Legal aliens have the same predicaments like every citizen of this country, such as tax debts. That is if years of stay in the merit’s accumulation tax underpayments. If such is the case, the same right applies to them to hire tax experts in helping them get a tax relief. Note that this is the usual process that everyone in this situation goes through.
Perhaps if an instance of discrimination occurs during negotiations these are isolated cases only. And largely due to a personal agenda of people involve and not integral to the IRS rules on tax debt relief. This fact should be known loud and clear.
In the same way that the requirements to avail tax debt relief also applies. That is, any settlement, compromise, penalty abatement, etc. is also subject to a stringent process. And this involves legal proceedings, with a judge, IRS, and a tax lawyer representing the legal resident taxpayer.
IRS, likewise, considers the work contract of this taxpayer, when determining for the period of payment of any back taxes and/or penalties. This is now a limitation when stretching the payment duration, until a tax debt is fully cleared with IRS. While citizens may get years of payment duration, an H1-visa holder taxpayer may only have months. Yet, the fact remains that a tax debt relief can be granted to him/her despite their limited stay in the country.
