Critical Illness – Why Comparing Quotes is Not Easy

When looking for critical illness cover you would think that the UK’s number one price comparison website was up to the job.

Having completed my quotes on their website for life and critical illness cover I was disappointed as the UK’s number one price comparison website only provided critical illness quotes with 4 companies, Synergy, Aviva, LV= and Legal & General.

From a consumer point of view this is a disappointment especially as one of those providers offers below average cover, another two have more exclusions on their critical illness than the norm and the third is the only remaining worthy consideration.

However when you then factor in the price differences why would you accept inferior cover just to save one or two pounds a month?

We all know that we could save money when we buy insurance, by reducing the cover. But for most of us we don’t want third party cover on our cars, price is not the only consideration.

With all the main comprehensive major critical illness cover providers NOT quoting and with no indication that they have not quoted, which is not in accordance with their “Our Customer Promise” it shows that being number one does not mean you are offering the best consumer deal or choice.

Comparing critical illness cover has never been easy as the same condition for example “heart attack” have different definitions depending on the provider, so one you may have a valid claim the other you may not.

Where do you go to get a true comparison of the market?

Using a comparison website as we have found out is not going to give you the full choice of the market.

This is mainly as some providers only offer cover via independent brokers. Also the tools available online are not as advanced to the comparison tools used by brokers to compare the cover, conditions, exclusions.

Why compare the cost of cover for your vehicle?

Comparing the cost of auto insurance in the past was a very difficult and time consuming job, as drivers were forced to contact insurance providers and firms individually because there was no other way of getting quotes from different insurers. They also had to deal with pushy sales staff when sourcing affordable auto insurance, with sales employees at different insurance firms trying to convince them that their cover was the most suitable and affordable.

However, these days comparing auto insurance has become a fast and easy task that can be done at any time of the day or night and without the need to interact with pushy sales people. The Internet has provided drivers with a very effective tool to help them to find low cost cover that is perfectly suited with their needs. By using the internet to compare auto insurance deals you stand a far better chance of finding cover that is not only well suited to your needs but is also competitively priced.

Some of the reasons for taking the time to compare auto insurance from a range of different providers include:

  • The cost of the cover can vary considerably from one provider to another for the same levels of cover, so by comparing your will be able to find the most competitively priced deals and keep your motoring costs down. You will find that you can save a considerable amount of money simply by comparing auto insurance, so it is well worth taking the time to do this
  • The level of protection can vary from one plan to another. Depending on the level of cover you decide to take the amount of protection that you get will vary, which is another reason why you should compare different insurance plans.
  • The exclusions and restrictions on different plans and providers will vary. These are often hidden in the small print but can make a big difference in terms of what you can and cannot claim for under your insurance plan. It is therefore important to compare this aspect of the cover
  • The benefits that you get with your insurance cover will differ. Some plans offer more benefits that others, so you could benefit hugely by taking the time to see what is and what is not included as part of your plan.
  • The overall value for money that you get based on the level of coverage compared to the price of the cover will vary from one provider to another. Again, this is a very important reason to compare the variety of auto insurance plans from a range of providers in order to get the best deal at the right price

Finding affordable cover for your car online

People of a certain age will still remember the days when finding cost effective car insurance involved a lengthy process, which often entailed making a lot of calls and waiting for post to arrive in order to effectively compare plans and prices to find the most effective plan.

Of course, all this has changed now, as people have the luxury of being able to find cheap car insurance from the comfort and privacy of their own homes without even having to go near the phone and certainly without the need to wait on quotes to wing their way to them via the post! The internet has made life so much easier for those that need to find cheap car insurance, which is why so many people now use this method.

There are many reasons why drivers decide to go online for cheap car insurance and all of them are very valid reasons. Some of the reasons why people go online to find affordable cover include:

  • Convenience: Finding low cost car insurance online is very convenient, as it means that drivers can look for cover in their own time and from the comfort of their own homes – ideal for today’s busy pace of life where people don’t have the time to make numerous phone calls
  • Speed: The Internet makes it far faster for drivers to browse and compare cover from a range of providers in order to boost their chances of getting cheap car insurance. This is a huge benefit for people who don’t want to spend hours hunting around for affordable cover
  • Great choice: Many insurance providers operate online, which means that you will be able to enjoy a great choice of plans and providers, making it even easier to find affordable cover to suit your needs
  • Reviewing plans: You will find that the Internet gives you the time that you need to look carefully at different plans and policies before you make your decision. You won’t have to put up with pushy sales staff on the phone trying to convince you that their cover is the best. You can make up your own mind in your own time by checking the various plans and deciding for yourself which one is best suited to your needs

In short, the Internet gives you far more freedom and flexibility when it comes to finding the right insurance cover at the right price, which is why so many people these days simply get online in order to browse and compare different insurance plans and providers.

Indoor Riding Arenas

Looking for a good quality Indoor Riding Arena?  Don’t know how to choose the right builder?  Not familiar with arena construction?  If you answer YES to any of these questions, this article is for you.

Here is what you should know about Indoor Arenas:

1. The first step is to set up your total budget and to figure out your total cost of the arena building project.  To do this, you will need to get quotes from different builders.  Your total budget should include the following: Permits, site excavation, construction of indoor arena itself, arena flooring, electric and sealed drawing.  Other expenses might include: land perk, drive way, landscaping and may be even a water run-off system.  And I’m sure, if you dig even dipper, you might find more expenses associated with arena construction.

2. The second step is to find the right builder.  Ask the builder if they have built any arenas before.  If they have, don’t be lazy, drive and take a look at one to see the construction, or even better, talk to the owner to get a feedback.  After all, you’ll be spending thousands and you want to make sure there are no surprises.

3.

Third step, is to make sure your indoor arena is built the right way and the right size for your needs.  After all, you don’t want to build too small of an arena and be sorry for the rest of your days.  At the same time, you don’t want to build too large arena and waste all that money.  Indoor arenas, in my opinion should not be less than 60′x120′x14′ in size.  The good indoor arena size is 72′x180′x16′.  This size of indoor may be used for different purposes and disciplines. The bottom line, your riding style and intended use will determine the proper size of the arena that will work best for you.  In some cases, you will even need to go with a wider indoor such as 80′ or even 100′ wide arena.  If you will use your indoor for jumping or running barrels, you’ll need a larger arena.  If you are doing English or Western show, you might get a way with a smaller one.

4. Finally, you need to make sure your indoor arena is constructed properly.  If you are looking for a steel building, make sure it’s of a good quality.  If you are looking for a post-frame construction, here is what we recommend.  Have your arena built with 4-ply 2×8 glue laminated posts.  Glue-lam posts are stronger and will not bow or bend compared to regular posts.  Make sure your builder installs all of the bracing such as wind/side braces and truss braces.  Make sure your kickboard is sloped and at least 5′ in height.  Sloped kickboard will better protect the rider from pinching their legs.  If using metal roof, do not forget to install a reflective insulation under metal to keep heat away in summer time.  Make sure you have enough light and ventilation in your arena.  And make sure to build your arena in the right spot (preferably on higher ground elevation).  After all, you don’t want your arena to be flooded every time it rains.

Well, now it’s up to you, but I hope you can learn something from this article.

Hiring Independent Contractors

Hiring an independent contractor to help you with home improvements has pros and cons.

You can save money by avoiding hiring a general contractor but then, when working with an independent contractor, you can end up with low quality work or someone who has abandoned the job halfway through. If the independent contractor hasn’t lived up to what they said they would do, you can end up spending more on a job than hiring a general contractor.

How Can You Find Quality Sub-Contractors? – There are starting to be resources online that can help you find reputable contractors. Google maps sometimes has reviews about businesses there. Those are difficult to depend on though, but they can be easily fabricated. Ask around with friends or try calling other businesses to see what independent contractors they have used in the past.

Learn About The Project Yourself – The more you know about what a project entails the better able you will be to analyze the bids you receive.

Learn about the project online and see what the job will require. Price out some of the materials at your local hardware store. That way when the contractor is giving you a bid you will have an idea of how realistic his bid is and how long it will take.

Get Multiple Bids – Make sure you have at least 5 different independent contractors bid on your project. The more quotes you have the more likely you are to pick someone who is reputable, honest and inexpensive.

Ask For References – Make sure you contact references from the contractor of people they have worked with before.
