Since we also had the data from last nights backup on the ReadyNAS NVX unit, online and available on the network, none of the above steps was necessary. Instead, we simply copied the missing data from the ReadyNAS instead of restoring from tape.

Interestingly enough, that ReadyNAS could be replicated off site to provide additional protection of the data against a site disaster. Then the tape backup would really be needed to archive data for long periods of time; something that could be done with the network attached storage also, although a large quantity of data could make that cost prohibitive for some businesses.
